Claes Oldenburg, internationally recognized Pop Art sculptor has died at his home on New York City at age 93. A special exhibition in his memory is being presented by Hartnell College Gallery from Sept 6th to October 20th. The renowned artist had a special bond with Salinas, the site of one of his major sculptures, Hat in Three Stage of Landing.
The exhibition presents preparatory models, documentation and photographs of the construction and installation of Hat in Three Stages of Landing. This important collaboration between Oldenburg and his late wife, Coosje von Bruggen was, according to Oldenburg, the first joint project by the duo who worked together until van Bruggen’s death in 2009.
