Hawaiian born Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011) is internationally known for her simple forms. Their richly glazed surfaces range from tranquil muted tones to others with vibrant and energetic brushwork in cobalt, iron or copper. In 2007 she made an exceptional gift of 34 pieces to the Crocker Museum in Sacramento, CA. These pieces, along with others from local private collections, were exhibited at Hartnell in 2008. This was her second exhibition at Hartnell College Gallery. In 2001 Takaezu conducted a three-day workshop accompanied by an exhibition of her stoneware and porcelain forms.
