Over 100 masks made for use in village celebrations and festivals reflect the legacy and mythology of pre-conquest Mexico as it fuses with European, especially Spanish, religion and history. Ranging from simplified forms to large, elaborately carved and colorful images they show the rich connection between art and culture in Mexico.
This collection was assembled and donated to Hartnell College Gallery by Micheljohn Horne of Los Angeles through the courtesy of Gregory Ghent, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
